Career Center
The UMBC Career Center, within the Division of Student Affairs, aims to empower all students and graduates to create their own success stories. We work with students at every academic level, from first-year freshmen to graduate students. Our services include career advising and counseling, networking events, on-campus recruiting, on-campus interviews, career and professional skills education, and applied learning opportunities (internships, co-ops, and research).
Community Leadership Graduate Programs
The Community Leadership programs at UMBC prepare aspiring and practicing leaders with the skills and experience needed to generate transformative social change. We help students develop greater self-understanding, engage with the assets and challenges of urban communities, hone practical leadership skills, and build personal and professional relationships that will support their growth as leaders.

Global Studies
The Global Studies Program combines interdisciplinary coursework, foreign languages, and study abroad to facilitate broad inquiry into the ecological, economic, cultural, ideological, and political issues of our day. Our undergraduate majors travel the world to study languages and cultures; on campus they study the global-local nexus and work on many projects including the cultivation of urban green spaces and the resettlement of refugee families in Baltimore.
Greater Washington Partnership
The Greater Washington Partnership is a civic alliance of the region’s leading employers who are committed to fostering unity and making the Capital Region—from Baltimore to Richmond—the most inclusive economy in the nation. The goal of GWP is to Advance Inclusive Growth Across the Capital Region, from Baltimore to Richmond. In 2018 the Partnership launched the Collaborative of Leaders in Academia and Business—Capital CoLAB (CoLAB)–to drive solutions that prepared more learners for in-demand, digital tech roles in the region. CoLAB’s vision is to make the Capital Region the most diverse digital tech workforce in the country, which is done by partnering with employers and educators to build digital tech pathways that prioritize equitable access to industry-aligned skills. As a Capital CoLab university partner, UMBC is able to issue digital micro-credentials to students who have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with those technical skills in demand across our region
Office of Academic Opportunity Programs
The mission of the Office of Academic Opportunity is to provide resources and support to students who are traditionally underrepresented in post-secondary education, including low-income, first-generation, and minority students, in order to facilitate academic success. The unit coordinates with departments on campus, as well as, agencies off campus to develop programming specifically designed to improve student outcomes. Our activities are directed toward pre-college students who seek enrollment in post-secondary institutions, UMBC students who strive for academic success, and students interested in enrolling in graduate study.
