Intercultural Management Competency
The Practice of Management (MGMT210) course studies the role of managers leading and controlling organizations ranging from small entrepreneurship to large corporate environments. Topics include management theories, corporate culture, goal setting, and measuring performance.
This microcredential reflects the unique learning experience offered to students who participate in a study abroad program and reflects on their global experience.
The course is modified to cover topics including the intersection of culture, cultural dimensions, the global marketplace, and how managers must adapt to cultural contexts, with the practices of management. The immersion into a new culture, through both structured and unstructured cultural immersive activities, will provide earners of this microcredential the opportunity to experience firsthand the effects of culture on management and organizational practices. This includes but is certainly not limited to, meeting with actual organizational managers in the host countries who will present to us how they go about the practice of management within their particular contexts. Earners will analyze and compare what is presented to the concepts and theories discussed in the course materials and lectures, not only to obtain a better understanding of the unique challenges faced within these particular cultures but also to see if real-world managers truly âpractice what we preachâ in the classroom.
