Mock Trial

Mock Trial is a collaborative activity where students portray the attorneys and witnesses in a real court case. Participants will step into the shoes of real attorneys by learning how to present speeches to a jury, examine witnesses, and argue rules to a judge. If you love to debate or argue, if you think you want to go to law school, or if you're looking to grow your public speaking skills, Mock Trial is the perfect activity for you.

This course will focus on teaching the basics of Mock Trial, and then will cover more advanced skills. At the end of the week, students will participate in a real Mock Trial round judged by lawyers and college Mock Trial competitors. The course will be led by students and coaches of UMBC Mock Trial, the 2021 College Mock Trial National Champions. The course instructors will teach skills like how to present a persuasive argument, how to read and analyze a case, and how to examine witnesses.

This course will be hands-on and will involve speaking in front of the class and presenting your examinations and arguments in front of others. Current MYLAW members are encouraged to apply, and high school students of all experience levels are welcome.
