Planning Instructional Variety for Online Teaching prepares faculty for a long-term commitment to virtual instruction. Grounded in effective practices and international standards for course design, PIVOT+ is a 10-day online workshop supported by daily synchronous meetings including deep dives into pedagogical applications and supporting cohort chats. Infused with Quality Matters (QM) standards for effective online course design, PIVOT+ promotes key concepts in alignment of learning objectives, community building and engagement, and authentic assessment. PIVOT+ is ideal for participants who found themselves thrust into online teaching in response to COVID-19, but would like to be more proactive and intentional about their future online course design and instruction.

Earning Criteria

- Submit a course blueprint for any fall course in any format.
- Participate in 8 out of 10 daily discussions.
- Attend 8 out of 10 live daily sessions.

Learning Outcomes

This course is fully online and will be delivered asynchronously through Blackboard with several sessions (as indicated on the course schedule) offered synchronously through Blackboard Collaborate. Instructional materials include lecture recordings, assigned readings, library resources, and critical research in the field. Each folder also contains discussion questions and ungraded activities so you can practice using different tools.

The daily folder format typically includes:
- Daily overview with
- Daily learning objectives
- Recommended readings
- Recommended videos
- Required discussion prompt
- Supplemental materials & resources
- Effective practices, strategies & tips, examples, etc.
- Evidence-based research, webinar recordings, FAQs.
- Supplemental discussion or suggested activity to practice various tools
