Social Justice Student Activism
How can young people have their voices heard and make a difference in such complex times? The pervasive Covid-19 pandemic, world-wide racial uprisings, accelerated climate change, increased food and housing insecurity and attacks on human rights laws are just some of the issues students must confront. The need for people first, "walk the talk" bravery and bold action is never more apparent than in this collective present moment of our global history. There is new thinking and right action that honors and expands the lessons from all of our national and global historical truths.
Join us in this week long exploration that invites you to discover:
What does it mean to be a young, social justice activist today?
How do you begin to create space for and with people of all backgrounds and lived experiences in your activism efforts - with your voice or with your actions?
How do you begin to walk the talk of diversity and inclusion as you work toward equity and social justice?
Each of us has the capacity to make a positive impact on our communities once we start to learn and understand the difference between our individual and shared identities, privileges and access to power. This dynamic, multi-media infused dialogue and workshop course will help students identify their unique identities, stories and lived experiences as youth activists while learning about and from, past and present, social justice-based activism. Learn how you can be the change you want to see in the world! This course will be fun, highly engaging, inspiring, and reflective. Learn how you can be the change you want to see in the world!
