This microcredential program equips individuals with the skills and knowledge to prepare basic federal income tax returns as IRS-certified VITA volunteers. Through a comprehensive blend of online training and hands-on volunteer experience, participants gain a deep understanding of tax laws and regulations, apply this knowledge to real-world scenarios, and develop strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Earners of this microcredential will gain expertise in tax laws, regulations, and filing requirements and apply their knowledge to real-world tax scenarios, using tax preparation software effectively. This microcredential also recognizes one's contribution to the community by providing free tax preparation services.

Earning Criteria

- Pass the IRS certification exam with an 80% or higher score.
- Complete 15 hours of related training
- Complete at least 25 hours of tax preparation services during a single tax season.
